Big Bear Tavern

The Big Bear Tavern was an after-hours club where soon-to-be members of the Yerba Buena Jazz Band met in the late 1930s to jam after their regular jobs with other bands, mostly dance orchestras playing popular tunes of the day. At the Big Bear these musicians developed the idea of returning to earlier forms of jazz for inspiration and repertoire.
